  • Hello everyone,

Today I'm going to talk to you about the American Museum of Natural History of New York.

I watched a movie two months ago called Night at the Museum (2006). It gave me the idea to talk about the American Museum of Natural History of New York.

It was designed by the architect Calvert Vaux in 1869 and opened his doors in 1877. It welcomes 5 millions of visitors every year. It's situated   in Manhattan in Central Park West. There are 5 floors where are exposed 32 millions of animals specimens. It is the biggest museum of natural history in the world.

In the year 2000 they created Rose Center for Earth and Space. On the first floor, there are many things like the oceans hall, the biodiversity room, the meteorite and stones room but also many things about the Indians from the East North coast and the evolution about the human being biology.

When you go to the second floor you can discover a work of art collection illustrating the Chinese culture and other countries of Asia. There are everyday objects from different African tribus and a lot of different birds from America and other countries. It is the most complete collection in the world. From mid-October until mid-May there are more than 500 butterfly species.

The third floor is about the mammals like elephants, lions, gorillas, rhinoceros, ostrichs... They are exposed by continent in full-size in their natural environment.

The last floor is the most famous floor. There is the biggest dinosaur collection in the world.

  • Hello everyone,

    I'm going to present Manhattan.

Manhattan is located in the United States of America, in NY state and more precisely in New York City. The name Manhattan derives from the word "Manna-hata" as written in the 1609 logbook of Robert Juet. The word "Manhattan" has been translated as 'island of many hills'. Manhattan is the most densely populated district of New York City. This district consists mostly of Manhattan Island, bounded by the Hudson, East and Harlem rivers and several small islands. Central park is a big park circled by Manhattan. This park has been created in 1857 and has lots of visitors every year. In Manhattan, you can visit lots of monuments like The Empire State Building , Chrysler Building, the Statue of the Liberty and some avenues like Times Square. The area that is now called "Manhattan" was long inhabited by the Lenape Native Americans. In 1883, the opening of the Brooklyn Bridge established a road connection to Brooklyn; an other district of New York City, across the East river. The construction of the New York City Subway in 1904 helped bind the new city of Brooklyn together as did additional bridges to Brooklyn. On September 11,2001 two planes were flown into the Twin Towers and the towers subsequently collapsed. On October 29 and 30 ,2012 , a hurricane caused extensive destruction in the borough, ravaging portions of the Lower Manhattan.       In conclusion, I think Manhattan is a beautiful district in a beautiful city with lots of things to discover.

  • Hi, my name is Héloïse and I'm going to talk about Central Park!

Recently I went to New-York with my family, and one of the things that I saw and that I really liked was Central Park.

Let’s start with a little history:

On July 21, 1853, the New York State legislature set aside over 750 acres of land in central Manhattan Island to create America's first large public park, soon to be called Central Park. At the beginning of the 20th century, the park was in a pitiful state, the benches, the lights and the playgrounds were broken, the park was no longer the treasure of the city but rather the shame of the city. But after that, the companies and the Foundations invested in the restoration of the park and it was completely repaired.Central Park written by Héloïse Roquebert

Now I’m going to talk about two places in Central Park that are very quiet and beautiful, that I really like:

First of all there is the Sheep meadow:

Sheep Meadow is the perfect place to rest. In summer, it is New Yorkers' favourite place to relax. From this lawn, you can enjoy a spectacular view of the skyscrapers surrounding the park. Go at Sheep Meadow at the end of August to see the open air cinema.

    Second: the great lawn:

The Great Lawn is a lawn in the middle of the park where you will find baseball and basketball courts and other installations for many other sports. In summer, there is the free outdoor cinema.

    Did you know?

-Hidden Waterfalls: There is Five hidden Waterfalls in Central Park. You can drink their water.

-Movies: 250 movies were shot in Central Park.Like: “Prince of central Park”; Bride Wars”...

-Installations: Over 16 millions apartments could be built in Central Park

    -Bigger than: Central park is bigger than Monaco;
